Our Founder's Story
WidLove was born from a deeply personal journey.
After unexpectedly losing her husband, our founder, Cassie, found herself navigating a world she never imagined she would have to face. Along with the grief came loneliness, uncertainty, and, eventually, questions about whether it was okay to open her heart again.
When she felt ready to explore dating, she discovered that it wasn't easy. Traditional dating apps didn't feel like they were built for someone who had experienced the loss of a spouse. She longed for a place where people understood the unique emotions, challenges, and hope that come with starting over after profound loss.
One of the things that surprised Cassie most was how difficult it could be to talk about her late husband. She didn't want to leave that part of her life behind—she wanted to find someone who could hold space for his memory, someone who understood that loving again doesn't mean loving your spouse any less. Too often, conversations about her late husband felt uncomfortable or avoided altogether.
She realized that someone who had also experienced the loss of a spouse often understood something that others couldn't: that the people we love never stop being part of our story. Sharing memories, speaking their names, and honoring their lives isn't something to move past—it's part of who we are.
That realization inspired WidLove.
WidLove was created to be more than a dating app. It's a compassionate community where widows and widowers can connect with others who understand their journey. Whether you're looking for friendship, companionship, or the possibility of finding love again, you'll find a space built on empathy, respect, and the belief that everyone deserves happiness—on their own timeline.
Cassie believes that losing the love of your life doesn't mean your story is over. It simply becomes part of your story. And when the time feels right, it's possible to write a new chapter with someone who understands where you've been, honors what you've lost, and embraces the future you're ready to build.
We're honored to be part of that journey.
